The natural and climatic conditions and the geographical location of the Karaganda region are optimal for the cultivation of grain, potatoes and vegetables, the development of livestock and have identified for the region the role of one of the leading regions of Kazakhstan in the production and processing of agricultural products.
The share of agriculture in the total gross regional product of the region for 2018 is 3.6%.
Agricultural output amounted to 272 billion tenge, the physical volume index was 106.2% to the level of 2017, including products in the crop production sector for 116 billion tenge, IPO - 110.8%, in the livestock sector - 155.4 billion tenge, IFO - 102.9%.
The gross harvest of grain and leguminous crops with an average yield of 12.7 kg / ha amounted to 1,031.2 thousand tons, which is 26.1% more than in 2017, 357.9 thousand tons of potatoes were grown in all categories of farms, an increase of 2017 amounted to 11%, 102.2 thousand tons of vegetables were harvested with an increase of 0.3%.
The sown area of the main agricultural crops in 2018 amounted to 1,149.3 thousand hectares, including: grain and legumes - 833.5 thousand ha (wheat - 626.5 thousand ha, barley - 176.3 thousand ha, oats - 17.9 thousand hectares), oilseeds - 17.1 thousand hectares, potatoes - 14.5 thousand hectares, open ground vegetables - 2.9 thousand hectares, fodder - 281.3 thousand hectares.
Taking into account the diversification of the sown area structure, the sowing area of the demanded crops increased, incl. forage crops (barley, oats) for 22.6 thousand hectares, legumes for 3.9 thousand hectares, oilseeds for 2 thousand hectares.
A moisture-saving technology was applied on an area of 668.9 thousand hectares with an increase of 11.5% by 2017. The area under which drip irrigation was used was 1,069.5 hectares.
Livestock products account for 57.1% of the total gross production of the agricultural industry.
Every year an increase in the number of livestock and livestock production is ensured.
In the region as a whole, farms of all forms of ownership produced 136.9 thousand tons of meat with an increase of 0.9% by 2017, 465.6 thousand tons of milk (3.5%), 726.4 million pieces of eggs ( 15.3%), 2 thousand tons of wool (a decrease of 1.7%).
The number of cattle in all categories of farms as of January 1, 2019 amounted to 533.8 thousand heads, which is 5.4% more than in 2017, horses - 309.7 thousand heads (10.4%), poultry - 3 928.9 thousand heads (by 3.9%), sheep and goats - 930.9 thousand heads (decrease by 0.2%), pigs - 78.9 thousand heads (decrease by 3.5%) .
In 2018, there were 94 agricultural cooperatives, of which 48 were meat farmers, 46 were dairy farms, which produced 2,302 tons of milk and 508 tons of meat.
The region processed agricultural products at 112 billion tenge. Due to the increase in production volumes, processing and preserving of meat, production of butter, cheese and cottage cheese, flour, bread, and fish increased.
798 units of agricultural machinery worth 8.4 billion tenge were purchased.
In the agricultural sector, 41 investment projects worth 31.7 billion tenge are being implemented, with the creation of 804 jobs:
1 project in the Entrepreneurship Support Card for 120 million tenge, with the creation of 10 jobs;
2 projects through KazAgro NMH JSC for 2 billion 991 million tenge with the creation of 22 jobs.
37 projects off the map of industrialization and entrepreneurship support for 10 billion 741 million tenge with the creation of 652 jobs.

Within the framework of the agro-industrial complex development program for 2017-2021, state support for the agro-industrial sectors amounted to 14.1 billion tenge, including 2 billion tenge for the crop industry, 4.9 billion tenge for livestock, and investment subsidies, processing - 7.2 billion tenge from the republican budget.
In 2018, 13 987.1 million tenge was allocated to the fixed capital of agriculture, which is 35.3% more than the level of 2017, including equity - 12 069 million tenge, bank loans - 476.3 million tenge and other borrowed funds - 1 441.8 million tenge.
3,707.1 million tenge of investments in fixed assets were allocated for food production, which is 87.4% more than in 2017.
To curb the unjustified increase in prices for socially significant food products in the regions of the region, 824 fairs were held during 2018, at which products at 7.1 billion tenge were sold at prices below market.
