The implementation of the economic policy initiated by the Head of State, state programs of new industrialization and other measures have allowed to consolidate the positive results in the social and economic development of the region.
The gross regional product of the Karaganda region for 2018 amounted to 4,407.7 billion tenge or 7.4% of the gross domestic product of the republic. In the republic, Karaganda region takes the 4th place after the cities of Almaty (20.6%), Astana (9.8%) and Atyrau region (13.2%). Per capita gross regional product in the region amounted to 3 195.1 thousand tenge (in the republic - 3 261.8 thousand tenge). This is the 7th place in the republic.
In the structure of the gross regional product, industry accounts for 47.9%, construction - 4.2%, and agriculture - 3.6%. In the structure of production of services, the share of wholesale and retail trade; automobile and motorcycle repair accounts for 12.1%, service industries - 12.9%, transport and storage - 6.8%.
The share of manufacturing in the total GRP of the region is 32.1%, mining - 11.5%, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning - 3.4%, water supply; sewer system, control over the collection and distribution of waste - 0.9%.
The basis of the regional economy is industrial production. Enterprises of the Karaganda region produce 33.2% of coal, 27.6% of iron ore, 28.1% of copper ore mining, 100% of flat products, 83.3% of crude steel, 76% of refined copper, 33 , 3% - refined silver and 11.3% - refined gold.
Over the past ten years, an increase in industrial production by 3.2 times has been noted. The share of the region in the republic in 2018 amounted to 10.7%, this is the 2nd place in the republic.
The share of mining in the republic is 2.2%. Since 2008, the mining industry has grown 4 times. Significant growth of copper concentrate was ensured - 789.1 thousand tons in 2008 and 11 150.8 thousand tons in 2018, an increase of 14 times, an increase in coal production was also observed, in 2008 30.7 million tons were produced in the region coal, in 2018 - 35 million tons.
A significant share in industrial production is occupied by manufacturing, the share of which in the republican volume is 19.2%. Over the period from 2008 to 2018, the volume of production in the manufacturing sector increased by 2.3 times. Of the manufacturing sectors, metallurgy occupies a significant share, the share of which reached 76.6% in 2018.
Sustainable economic growth is one of the important factors for attracting investment. So, since 2008, the volume of investments in fixed assets increased 2.2 times and in 2018 amounted to 469.8 billion tenge. Over the past 10 years, 3.5 trillion were invested in fixed assets. tenge.
Agricultural output increased 3.3 times and, according to the results of 2018, amounted to 272 billion tenge.
The number of operating small and medium-sized enterprises increased 1.9 times, from 43 688 to 84 032 units. Small and medium-sized businesses are represented by legal entities - 20.6%, peasant farms - 10.3% and individual enterprises - 69.1%.
The number of people employed in small business increased almost 1.6 times and in 2018 amounted to 236.1 thousand people (in 2008 - 149.5 thousand people).
A 6-fold increase in the production of small and medium-sized businesses was ensured and in 2018 reached 1,325.1 billion tenge (in 2008, 222.3 billion tenge). According to the results of 2018, the proportion of the Karaganda region in the republic amounted to 5%.
The share of the contribution of SMEs to the region’s GRP increased by 8.1 percentage points and in 2018 amounted to 15.8% (-7.7% in 2008).
The volume of retail trade turnover over 10 years increased by 3.4 times and amounted to 898 billion tenge.
Given the macroeconomic factors of the development of the global economy, the volume of foreign trade turnover for 2018 amounted to 6612.8 million US dollars, including export of goods amounted to 4 864.6 million US dollars, import - 1748.2 million US dollars.
Education has traditionally been a priority area in the region. Over 10 years, the cost of education increased by more than 6 times.
For the period from 2008 to 2018, 44 educational facilities for 13,884 places were put into operation with the amount of funding of 24,749 million tenge (including through transfers from the republican budget - by 20,619 million tenge, from the local budget - by 4130 million tenge), of which:
- 18 comprehensive schools for 9,084 student places;
- 18 kindergartens for 3,615 places;
- 2 colleges of technical vocational education for 560 places (Karkaralinsk, Karkaralinsky district; p. Kievka, Nurinsky district).
- 2 typical sports halls (s.Karay, Nurinsky district; Karaganda city);
- art school with 400 places in the city of Priozersk;
- an extension to the orphanage (workshops for 25 places to instill technical work skills);
